Rozgrywany od dekady LOTTO Memoriał Kamili Skolimowskiej został doceniony przez światowe władze lekkoatletyczne i od przyszłego roku znajdzie się w gronie prestiżowych mityngów rozgrywanych w ramach nowego cyklu World Athletics Gold Continental Tour. To po Diamentowej Lidze drugi najważniejszy cykl zawodów lekkoatletycznych na świecie. Impreza stanie się areną konkurencji, które zostały usunięte z programu Diamentowej Ligi, jak rzuty dyskiem i młotem.
World Athletics (do niedawna IAAF – Międzynarodowe Stowarzyszenie Federacji Lekkoatletycznych) przeprowadziło po sezonie 2019 reformę kalendarza. Jego efektem jest stworzenie na bezpośrednim zapleczu Diamentowej Ligi nowego cyklu – World Athletics Gold Continental Tour. Jedynym polskim mityngiem, który w nadchodzącym sezonie wejdzie w skład tego cyklu, będzie rozgrywany na Stadionie Śląskim LOTTO Memoriał Kamili Skolimowskiej. To zawody lekkoatletyczne, które w ostatnich latach przyciągnęły na polskie obiekty największą liczbę kibiców – w 2018 roku ponad 41 000, a w tym roku prawie 25 000 widzów. Podczas Memoriałów padały znakomite wyniki, w tym m.in. rekordy Polski i świata. W ubiegłym roku impreza otrzymała „Złote Kolce” – nagrodę dla najlepszych polskich zawodów lekkoatletycznych, natomiast w latach 2016 i 2017 uzyskała nominacje do tytułu „Imprezy Roku” w Plebiscycie Przeglądu Sportowego. W 2020 roku Memoriał będzie jednym w głównych etapów przygotowań Stadionu i Województwa Śląskiego do Mistrzostw Świata Sztafet, które rok później odbędą się na śląskim obiekcie.
– Bardzo się cieszę, że impreza, która zaledwie od dwóch lat odbywa się na Stadionie Śląskim znajdzie się wśród czołowych mityngów świata. Stadion Śląski to bez wątpienia narodowa arena lekkoatletyczna. Z każdą kolejną imprezą budujemy jej prestiż i przywracamy świetność. Jako władze regionu jesteśmy świadomi ogromnego potencjału promocyjnego jaki posiada Kocioł Czarownic, dlatego też niezwykle cenimy sobie wpisanie Memoriału Kamili Skolimowskiej w do cyklu World Athletics Gold Continental Tour. Memoriał to jedna z najważniejszych imprez sportowych roku i dokładamy wszelkich starań, by z każdą edycją była coraz lepsza – powiedział marszałek województwa śląskiego Jakub Chełstowski.
Podczas Memoriału rozgrywane są m.in. konkurencje, które zostały usunięte z programu Diamentowej Ligi. Dzięki temu w konkursach rzutów dyskiem oraz młotem na LOTTO Memoriale Kamili Skolimowskiej wystąpi światowa elita tych konkurencji, w tym oczywiście polskie gwiazdy – Paweł Fajdek, Wojciech Nowicki, Joanna Fiodorow oraz Piotr Małachowski, dla którego przyszłoroczny start na Memoriale będzie szczególny. Tym występem pożegna się z kibicami i zakończy sportową karierę.
Oprócz Memoriału Kamili Skolimowskiej w World Athletics Gold Continental Tour znajdą się tak znane i cenione zawody, jak mityngi w Ostrawie, Turku, Hengelo, Zagrzebiu, Kingston, Tokio, Nankinie oraz Szekesfehervar.
– Chciałbym bardzo serdecznie powitać w naszym gronie zawody poświęcony pamięci mistrzyni olimpijskiej w rzucie młotem Kamili Skolimowskiej. Continental Tour to nowy cykl składający się z największych mityngów na świecie i bardzo się cieszę, że są w tym gronie zawody z Polski, czyli kraju z tak bogatą lekkoatletyczną historią i wielkimi sukcesami. Od kilku lat przyglądaliśmy się rozwojowi Memoriału i mogę szczerze powiedzieć, iż wynikami, frekwencją na trybunach oraz pod względem organizacyjnym zasłużył, aby dołączyć do nowego cyklu zrzeszającego czołowe mityngi świata – powiedział prezydent World Athletics Sebastian Coe.

LOTTO Kamila Skolimowska Memorial honoured by World Athletics
With a decade of history, LOTTO Kamila Skolimowska Memorial was honoured by the world athletics authorities and from the next year it will be part of the new World Athletics Gold Continental Tour. It is the second most important athletics competition series in the world after the Diamond League. The event will comprise disciplines that have been removed from the Diamond League programme, like discus and hammer throw.
World Athletics, formerly known as IAAF, the International Association of Athletics Federations, has reformed its calendar after the 2019 season. The result – the creation of a new series of the world's best one-day meetings outside the Diamond League: World Athletics Gold Continental Tour. LOTTO Kamila Skolimowska Memorial which takes place at the Silesian Stadium will be the only Polish meeting to be included in the series the next season. The Memorial is an athletic competition that can boast the highest number of fans attending such an event live in Poland – over 41 000 in 2018, this year – close to 25 000. The Memorial fans have seen marvellous results, including Poland and World records. Last year the event was awarded with the Złote Kolce (Golden Spikes), an annual sports award in recognition of Polish competitors in the sport of athletics, and in 2016 and 2017 it was nominated for the title of the “Event of the Year” by the prestigious Polish sports magazine “Przegląd Sportowy”. In 2020, the Memorial will be one of the main stages in the Silesian Stadium and Silesian Voivodeship’s preparation to the IAAF World Relays, that will be taking place at the Stadium the following year.
“I am delighted, that a competition that is being held at the Silesian Stadium for just two years has already taken its place among the most venerable meetings in the world. The Silesian Stadium is undoubtedly Poland top athletics venue. Every event adds to its prestige and restores its glory. As the local authorities we are aware of the immense promotional potential the “Witches Cauldron” has, and thus we are very happy with the inclusion of the Memorial in the World Athletics Gold Continental Tour. Kamila Skolimowska Memorial is one of the most important sports events of the year and we do our best to make sure every following edition is better than the last one,” said Jakub Chełstowski, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship.
The Memorial includes, among others, the disciplines that were removed from the Diamond League programme. This will allow us to see the world elite compete in the discus and hammer throw, including, of course, the Polish stars - Paweł Fajdek, Wojciech Nowicki, Joanna Fiodorow and Piotr Małachowski, for whom the next year’s start in the Memorial will be very special. It will be his farewell with the fans and the final event in his career.
Alongside the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial, the World Athletics Gold Continental Tour comprises well-known and venerable meetings such as those in Ostrava, Turku, Zagreb, Tokyo and Szekesfehervar.

The eleventh edition of the LOTTO Kamila Skolimowska Memorial will take place on the 6th of September 2020. Entry to the Silesian Stadium will be free.
